Track Workout

It's no secret that I don't enjoy running but I will admit, there is something about the feeling after a hard running based workout that just feels so good.  (Don't tell my lifting friends I said that ok?)

We're fortunate to have a high school track just a few blocks from our house that is open to the public most days.  I can't even fathom the thought of running circles for miles and miles but what I can do are sprints.  Ok, my sprints aren't really that fast but they're fast for me and that's the point.  So there.  Take that.  ;)

Last week I had about thirty minutes of free time.  I wanted to get a quick workout in but I didn't have time to drive to the gym and back and wasn't up to plyometric based moves so I hit the track.

It was a fast but tough workout, plus I got a little vitamin d compliments of the sunshine!

Truth be told I woke up sore.  Anything over 100 meters is considered long distance in my book!

Your turn:  Do you run on a track?

  1. GREAT JOB on getting out there! I actually did my first speed work sessions on the track last summer and I wanted to DIE. It was so hard but after the first few times, they actually became my favorite workouts of the week because you work so hard but they are over fairly quick (in comparison to other workouts.)

  2. Compliments from a fellow lifter! I can't tell you how many times I've tried to run past 2 miles. I usually end up walking away trying to keep my insides from falling out. I've heard that shorter sprints like this workout are healthier for you then long distance runs. Of course people will disagree but what matters is how it makes you feel right? Maybe I'll pick up running again....

  3. Simple and easy (well maybe not so easy) track workout...love it! I love track workouts! I would so rather do a track workout than go for a long run. I feel like breaking up a run into chunks like this just helps time go by so much faster :)

  4. I wish we had a track near us! I am wanting to teach my 7 year old how to run. A track would be perfect! I actually love distance running more than sprints but I realize speed work makes you a better runner/athlete!
